About the Competition

Teens in the D is calling all teen writers (13-18 years) in Detroit to submit their original writing for a chance to earn recognition and have their work published in a digital book when the project is over. Every writer has their own imagination that shines through in their writing. We want to give every teen writers a chance to let their voices be heard.

Our goal is for your voices to come alive in the pages of your writings. We want teens from different backgrounds, cultures, and ethnic groups, sharing stories that resonate with them and that makes us unique. It’s okay if our story is emotional; it is okay if our story is different, but it is not okay to preclude our story from being told.

Teens in the D is accepting submissions of previously unpublished writings. Teens may submit for multiple mediums: poems, essays, stories, scripts, or memoirs. Submissions must not exceed 650 words. However, there is no word/line limit on poem submissions.

Teens in the D wants every writer to be proud of their work. Please do not copy (plagiarize), use your own voice. Be original. Plagiarism is not acceptable, and will lead to your immediate disqualification. The content must not be offensive, profane, racial or discriminatory in nature. There is no guarantee that your submission will be published.
